Harold E. McCloud

Harold E. McCloud

October 9, 1921 – January 25, 2013

Harold E. McCloud (91) passed away peacefully at the Knowlton House in Lac Brome, Quebec, Canada on Friday, January the 25th.  For 61 years, Harold was the loving husband to Shirley Crittenden McCloud, and father to Karen McCloud (Joe Flynn), South Hero, VT and Donna McCloud (Jacques Provost), Pierrefonds, Quebec. Grandfather to Harrison and Nigel Flynn and Caitlin, Rachel, Lindsay and Jamieson Provost. Harold was predeceased by his sister, Jean McCloud Miller (Arthur Miller, Sr.). Leaving his three nephews in New Jersey, Arthur Jr., Gene and Raymond Miller. Also several nieces and nephews in Canada.

Harold and Shirley were married in 1952 and lived on Devon Street in Kearny, NJ for the first twenty-five years of their marriage where they raised their family. Harold was the General Manager of Two Guys in Kearny for 21 years. After taking an early retirement, Harold and Shirley then moved to Quebec permanently from NJ in 1977. They lived for many years in their home on Draper Hill in Sutton, Quebec, Canada, where Harold loved his country life, gardening and plenty of room for his beloved dogs.

Harold served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and participated in three campaign theaters: Africa, Europe and the Pacific. During the holidays, he entertained his children, nephews and grandchildren with many tales from his army days and his stories of Two Guys, and needless to say we know them all by heart.

Our heartfelt thanks to the nurses, care givers and staff of the third floor at Knowlton House, without them this long process would have been more unbearable for our family. They are truly angels and words can not express our deepest appreciation.

The will be no immediate service per the families wishes, Harold will travel back to his beloved birthplace, Kearny, NJ and a graveside service will be held April 19, 2013 at 12 noon, where his ashes will be buried next to his Mother and Father at Arlington Cemetery in Kearny.

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak' a right guid-willie waught,
For auld lang syne.
