Gilbert R. Anderson, Sr.

 

Gilbert R. Anderson, Sr. died peacefully at the home of his daughter on October 28, 2014. He was 73. Gilbert lived in Glen Ridge before moving to North Carolina nine years ago. Visiting will be on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. at the Armitage  Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Service Monday 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 74 Park Ave in Glen Ridge. Private cremation will follow.

Gilbert worked as a Corrosion Engineer for NJ Bell in Newark from 1964 until 1994, retiring to the Outer Banks, North Carolina with his wife Mary Ellen.

He was the Elks Exulted Ruler in 1972 of the B.P.O.E. South Orange Lodge, member of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers, a Boy Scout Cub Master and Treasurer, and a parishioner and member of the vestry at the Christ Episcopal Church in Glen Ridge.  Gilbert served in the US Navy as a boatswain's mate from 1958 to 1964.

Gilbert is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (nee Wayte), his children and their spouses Elizabeth Ann and John A. Anderson, Jr., Kristen L. and Simon J. Hamill and Gilbert R., Jr. and Caitlin Anderson. Brother of Norman (Beverly), George M, Jr. (Judith), Kathleen Hall (Fred), John (Catherine), James (Joeann), Mary (Richard) McClusky and Elizabeth Jean Anderson. Also surviving, are his grandchildren Jack, Charlie, Liam, Aiden, Kayleigh and Jenna.
