Gene J. Centi, Sr.

Gene J. Centi, Sr. 91 life long resident of Kearny died on 7/24/14.

 

Visiting will be at The Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive Kearny on Sunday 1-5PM.  Religious Services will be at 4:30PM. The New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame Service will begin at 4pm.  The presentation of The American Flag by The United States Marines will immediately follow the religious service.

 

Mr. Centi was the founder and owner of Centi Carpet Cleaners in Kearny for 44 years retiring in 1995.  He served in The United States Marines as a Sergeant in The Philippines  during World War II.  He also was a New Jersey Amateur Golden Glove Champion in the Lightweight Division.  He was a member of The American Legion, Kearny, First Vice President of The New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame and a member of The 25 Boxing Association, Kearny.

 

Mr. Centi was the beloved husband of the late Doreen Hewitt Centi.  Father of Gene J. Centi, Jr. (Christine), Doreen Ryan (Patrick, Sr.) and Glenn Centi.  Brother of Josephine Rapp.  Grandfather of 8 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren.  He is also survived by is beloved dog Kim.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
