Having lived a rich, beautiful and full life, he is survived by his cherished wife Doris (nee Pena), loving daughter Leticia Fabiano, son-in-law Carlo, and his adored grandsons Aaron Damian and Austin Aramis. Abelardo is also survived by numerous dear family members and friends.
Abelardo was born in Holguin, Cuba, on December 30, 1934. The son of Ricardo, and Maria (nee Gonzalez), he attended military school from age eleven to eighteen. Always a hard working family man, he fled communist Cuba in 1965 to the United States with his young wife, along with her 13 year old sister and 18 year old niece, whom he continued to raise as his own. Abelardo was well known for valuing the sanctity of marriage and his devotion to his adoring wife Doris with whom he was fortunate to share more than 56 years of married life.
In 1967, he and Doris welcomed their precious daughter Leticia (Letty). He was delighted by her many accomplishments and was most proud of her for being the devoted mother of his adored grandsons. Abelardo also enjoyed an exceptionally close relationship with his son-in-law Carlo, whom he loved as a son and shared many of life’s precious moments.
Abelardo’s zest for life was infectious. Always the life of the party, he loved horses, and was fond of gaming. Nothing lit up his eyes like an impromptu trip to AC. He was fun-loving, and an amazingly positive influence in the lives of his grandsons Aaron and Austin. He shared with them many Cuban traditions, his passion for Cuban food, and most importantly the meaning of family love.
He will be truly missed.
