Kathleen "Kay" Burns

Kathleen “Kay” Burns, 85 of Nutley, NJ, passed away on March 10th with her family by her side. Kay, the daughter of the late James and Kathleen (nee Firth) Duffy. She was born in Montclair, NJ, on July 4th, 1933. She graduated from Queen of Peace High School in 1951 and Berkeley School of Business in 1952. Prior to marrying, she worked at Newark College of Engineering. After almost 30 years as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she returned to the United Way of North Essex for nearly 15 years. Kay was a lifelong fan of the music from the 1940s and 50s. She had an outstanding memory, loved great conversation over a cup of tea and had a wonderful sense of humor. Kay is survived by her husband John "Jack" Burns of 58 years, sons John, Jim and Kevin Burns, daughter Kathleen and her husband Greg Spreeman and her grandsons William and Brice. She was predeceased by her brother Jim.  Visiting will be on Saturday March 16, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive,  Kearny, Mass, that same morning, will be at Saint Stephen’s Catholic Church in Kearny at 11am. The internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
