Joseph S. Trovato, lifelong resident of Kearny, has passed peacefully in his home early Saturday evening at the age of 88. Born May 13, 1931, son of John and Dominica (Cimato) Trovato, attended the Kearny public school system, and went on to graduate from Seton Hall Prep (49) in South Orange, NJ. He went on to receive his B.S. in biology from Marquette University, and his DDS from Marquette University School of Dentistry. Following dental school, he served in the US Army as the base dental surgeon in Korea. He left military service as a Captain and began practicing dentistry in Kearny where he enjoyed a 50-year career.
He is survived by his wife Lillian (Donisi) Trovato, who together shared a rare 60th wedding anniversary this past October. He has 2 children, Joseph (55) and Laura (49) and 3 grandchildren: Joseph Trovato, III (30), Nicole and Christina Trovato (20). He is also survived by his daughter in law, Joyce (Carbora) Trovato, and his son in law, James Cozine. He had 2 younger siblings both of whom reside locally. His sister Catherine Ingenito, and brother John, both mourn his passing.
Joseph was a humble man who dedicated his life to his family, his career in dentistry, the community, but most of all to God. While he never spoke openly about religion, he attended mass every day. It was his greatest honor to serve as a Eucharistic Minister, and as a lecture at St. Anthony’s in East Newark, and most recently, at St. Cecilia’s in Kearny. His faith was an example to all who knew him.
Services will be held at Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home at 596 Belgrove Dr. in Kearny. Viewing will be held on Tuesday July 2, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00, and from 7:00 – 9:00. Service will be on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 9:00 followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia’s and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
