Jim Vlachakis, 89 of Kearny passed away at home on July 8, 2019.
Funeral is from the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday at 10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park. Visitation is on Thursday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
Born in Sparta, Greece, Jim settled in Kearny in 1967. A master craftsman, Jim worked as a carpenter and furniture builder, and was the owner of J & D Laminators in Kearny. He loved making things, and tinkering in his shop.
Jim was the beloved husband of Dimetria (nee Vlachos) Vlachakis. He was the loving father of Thomas Vlachakis and his wife Debra, and dear grandfather of Gregory and Andreas. He is also survived by his sisters Maria and Penny of Stamford, CT, Zoe of Australia, and brother John of Greece.
