Francis P. Raftery, of Kearny, passed away on September 10, 2019. He was 80. Visiting will be on Friday September 13, 2019 from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Queen of Peace Church and private cremation will follow.
Fran was a graduate of St. Cecilia High School in Kearny. He did his undergraduate studies and Jersey City State College and earned his Masters Degree at Seton Hall University. Fran was a School Teacher, Principal and retired Superintendent of The Moonachie Board of Education. Fran was an elected member of The Kearny Board of Education. He was a well known bagpiper and was a founding member The St. Columcille United Gaelic Pipe Band. He was a Gold Card member of The Scots American Club and involved with many Irish clubs and functions as well. He was a proud member of The Giblin Association and after his retirement enjoyed his part time work at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home. He was a state champion soccer Coach at St. Cecilia High School. His strong faith and undying love for his family defined who Franny was.
Loving husband of Bridget A. (nee Durkin) and devoted father of Brian (his wife Jean) and Kevin (his wife Wendy) he was the proud brother of Rita "Sister Francis" Raftery and Bill Raftery. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren; Kelly Bridget, Kathryn Margaret, Liam Patrick, Sean Edward and Aidan John.
