Sonnia Rose Ramos

On June 9, 2020 our beloved Mother, wife to the late Rev. Manual Ramos and spiritual leader of our community Rev. Sonnia Rose Ramos passed away. She leaves a powerful and enduring example of a life filled with the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and her family. Rev. Sonnia Ramos dedicated her entire life to serving the needs of others and Co-Founded La Hermosa Church in 1963. She was Valedictorian of her class of 1980 and worked 38 years as a Social Worker at Apostles’ House in Newark, NJ until her retirement in January 2020.

Her passing from a serious illness at the age of 81 leaves a legacy of love and compassion, empathy and strength, courage and perseverance. Sonnia’s wisdom, guidance, sacrifice and passion for life will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was the proud mother of 8 biological children and 1 adopted great grandchild. She also leaves behind over 40 grandchildren. Sonnia is also survived by her 1 sister, 1 niece and 3 nephews.

Rev. Sonia Ramos was the matriarch for an entire church community. Her passion to follow in the steps of Christ Jesus extended to every aspect of her life. Serving as a Minister, Social Worker, Community Activist and Mother; she was deeply loved by her family, colleagues, clients, church members, friends and the entire community.

The Ramos family invites all those who were touched by her loving and giving spirit to join them in Sonnia’s homegoing service. The service for the public and parishioners will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2020 from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm at La Hermosa Church located at 1101-1107 Broad Street, Newark, NJ.

Sonnia’s wishes and the Ramos family are that donations be made to the church she Co-Founded; La Hermosa Church can be made through its website LHCNEWARK.org/give/.
