Russell Murray passed away on June 7, 2020 at Merry Heart Assisted Living, Succasunna, NJ. He was 87. Born in Jersey City he lived most of his life in Kearny before moving to Succasunna in late 2017. Private arrangements are by Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny. Entombment will be at The Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in North Arlington. A Memorial Service will follow at a later date.
Russell served in The U.S. Army during The Korean War. While employed at Merrick Scale & Manufacturing Company in Passaic, Russell graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford. He was also employed by Admiral, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, The Star-Ledger and Glenery, Inc. Russell then retired as Chief Municipal Finance Officer for The Town of Kearny.
Russell was very involved with the Elks and was the Past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, 1050 Kearny. He enjoyed his involvement with the Admiral Bowling League and Kearny Republican Party. He also loved playing craps in Atlantic City as well as spending time at the Kearny men’s card club where he regularly played poker. In addition, Russell was an avid New York Giants and New York Mets fan.
Beloved husband of the late Anne Jane (Rapsis) of 62 years, he was the loving father of Tracey Tagliente and Russell K. Murray. Brother of Jean Triano (deceased), he is also survived by his grandson Russell James Murray. In lieu of flowers kindly consider a donation to The Elks.
