Anthony Toledo (nee Pedro René Toledo)
Born February 23, 1933, in San Nicolas de Bari, Havana, Cuba; the oldest surviving child of Santiago Toledo and Asunción Torres. He is survived by his loving wife, Julia (neé Romero), daughter Randy (Terry O’Reilly) of Alexandria, VA, son René (Martha Oliva) of Randolph, NJ, grandson Stephen Toledo, granddaughters Stephanie and Gabriela Toledo, brother Ruben D. Toledo (Consuelo Reimont) of Kearny, NJ, and sister Dolores Toledo of San Nicolas de Bari, Havana, Cuba.
Anthony was a 33rd degree Freemason of the Scottish Rite and member of various Masonic Lodges in Cuba, Union City, New Jersey, and Hialeah, Florida. He served as Grand Treasurer of the National Federation of Cuban Freemasons in Exile – Cuba Primero.
In 1955, Anthony attended the San Julián Aircraft Technical School in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, where he obtained his pilot’s license and graduated as an aviation mechanic. After being imprisoned as a prisoner of conscience for defending democracy and human rights in his native Cuba, Anthony immigrated to the United States, where he became a proud American citizen. He worked for many years in housekeeping at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. After retiring to Florida in 2002, he remained active with civic and charitable events, and enjoyed time with his family and many close friends.
After a long and difficult struggle, he passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021. He will be missed by his family and friends.
