Sofia Cerrato, 89 of Newark passed away on November 21, 2021 at Alaris at Belgrove in Kearny.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Sofia at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday November 26 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Newark on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born in Cuba, Sofia lived in the Ironbound Section of Newark, and in Harrison until moving back to Newark in 2001. She was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and was a CCD teacher there. She was also a member of the Newark Senior Citizens. Sofia worked as a packer for C.S. Osborne in Harrison for 18 years until retiring at age 66.
Sofia was the loving mother of Fanny Naranjo and her husband Gilbert and Lillie Rodriguez; cherished grandmother of four and adoring great-grandmother of eight.
