Barbara Russell died peacefully on March 11, 2021 in Toms River, NJ with her family by her side. Barbara was born to the late Joseph and Marie Sateary on March 22, 1938 in Jersey City and lived in Kearny most of her life. For 60 years, she was the devoted wife to Joseph who predeceased her in November 2019. Arrangements are by the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home, Kearny. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday March 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Kearny. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
Barbara was dedicated to her children and leaves behind daughters Karen Cannizzo, Donna Esteves and son David (Leslie) and is predeceased by son Michael (Lori). She is the cherished grandmother to Alexa, Amanda, Zachary, Joseph, Natalie and Gavin. She is the caring sister of Joan Mainiero (Joseph) and brother Joseph Sateary (Kathleen) and leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Barbara genuinely enjoyed her family and friends especially taking trips to Atlantic City, lunch at The Stack and Saturday visits to her favorite hair salon. Barbara loved to read and often exchanged books with her friends. Her love of gardening and holiday baking was shared and handed down to her daughters and grandchildren.
She was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Over the years, Barbara was employed by various companies in the area notably Western Electric, Congoleum and BMG Music.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her name.
