Manuel S. Cunha, 70 of Kearny passed away on January 23, 2022, with his loving family by his side.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Manuel at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church on Thursday at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born in Portugal, Manuel Sousa Cunha journeyed to America as a teenager with hopes and dreams in mind. He went on to marry his sweetheart, Maria Alice Cunha. He has three kids and worked for General Motors in Linden as an assembler for 36 years to support his family. After his children moved away to find their own lives, Manuel retired to pursue his life-long dream of being a crossing guard to make his community safer. While battling cancer, Manuel stayed a man of faith who loved the Lord, his family and his community.
The son of the late Alipio Maria and Maria DeJesus (Sousa) Cunha, Manuel was the beloved husband of Maria Alice (Santos) Cunha; loving father of Carlos Cunha and his fiance Connie Rae Sabo, Diane Garrido and her husband Frank and Isabel Cunha; cherished grandfather of Ethan, Natalie and Megan Garrido; dear brother of Joao Cunha and Maria Miranda. Manuel is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Manuel Sousa Cunha represented all that was right and just in this world. He was a man with sheer determination who built his life from the ground up. He will be deeply missed.
