Juana “Juanita” “Wita” Almonte passed away peacefully on October 15, 2022, she was surrounded by her family. Juanita was born on August 21, 1941 in Puerta Plata , Dominican Republic before moving to the United States. She embarked on her American Dream with her first stop being Santurce, Puerto Rico where she then traveled to Manhattan and then to find her home in Jersey City where she resided for 50 years. She lived in Kearny for the last 4 years. Before retirement, she worked as a seamstress for Delta Upholstery and later at De Angelis LTD.
She is predeceased by her parents, Alicia Acosta and Christino Almonte, and her son Alfredo Almonte Alvarez.
She is survived by her children Sonia (Michael) McTeigue, Pedro (Amilta) Matos and Jorge (Amada) Matos, grandchildren Brian (Briana) Matos, Briana (Michael)Thomson, Christian (Ashley) Matos, Katherine Matos, Georgina Matos and Jorge Matos and great granddaughter Ariel Matos. She is also survived by her siblings, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Juanita at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday October 21 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace in North Arlington on Saturday at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
