Richard “Dick” Swankie of Harrison passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25 th in Denville, NJ at the age of 91.
Dick grew up in Orange, NJ. He was a retired Sales Promotion Executive with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in Maplewood. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Dick lived in Harrison for 49 years with his late wife, Ann. He was very involved for many years with Holy Cross Church where he had been active with the Holy Name Society and served as an usher at Sunday Mass. He was a talented cartoonist whose work brought joy to everyone. He was also an avid golfer, enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always quick with a joke and/or compliment. He loved making people smile.
Dick was the beloved husband of the late Ann (nee Maffey), he was the devoted father of Michele Brennan (and her husband Matthew), and a wonderful grandpa to Danielle and Katie Rose. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and William Swankie.
The family will welcome visitors on Friday, April 1st from 4pm-8pm at Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home located at 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny, NJ. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at 10:30 am at Holy Cross Church located at 323 Harrison Ave., Harrison, NJ.
