Rolando Dopozo passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 1, 2023. He was 94 years old.
Born in Cuba, he immigrated to Spain in 1967 and worked hard to reunite with his family in the US in 1969. Rolando lived in Newark, NJ before moving to North Arlington, NJ in 1979 where he lived with his family until shortly after his loving wife passed away in 2021. While his body may have become frail during the years, he loved numbers and worked as an accountant until the age of 90 adding numbers in his head effortlessly. He was also a very active member of the Knights of Columbus in Newark, NJ helping to serve the community for over 45 years. Rolando was a quiet, reserved man with a noble heart. His family, friends and caregivers at Dellridge Health & Rehabilitation Center in Paramus who lovingly called him “Poppy” will miss him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ followed by a mass at St. Peter’s R.C. Church, 155 William St., Belleville, NJ at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge.
Rolando is survived by his daughter Xiomara Ocampos, (Gustavo) and his son Alex Dopozo (Jaime) and his grandchildren Gabriella, Ayden and Isa as well as his sister, Manuela Rodriguez (Octavio), his nephew Jorge Rodriguez, niece Maria (Chavela) Selecky, nephews Oscar and Rolando Dopozo.
