Joe Augusto Martins, 86 of Kearny passed away on December 27, 2023.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Joe at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Thursday January 4 from 5-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the funeral home at 6:30 PM. Cremation will be held privately.
Born in Portugal, Joe lived in Newark for many years, and also in Brazil before settling in Kearny 20 years ago. He was the former owner of Sal Mar Auto Body in Newark, and was currently working as a crossing guard in Kearny. Joe was an avid gardener, and was very active for his whole life. He enjoyed cooking, and especially looked forward to hosting barbeques with his family and friends. Above all, Joe will be remembered as a caring and generous man, who could always be counted on.
Joe was the beloved husband of Nadir de Souza Martins; loving father of Elle, Nelson and Melissa; dear grandfather of Ayden, Brooke, Tristen and Ariela; and adoring great-grandfather of Luna. He was also the loving brother of Graciele, Dulce, Judith, Filomena, Prazeres and Manuel.
