George Vlachos passed away on May 17, 2023. He was 90. Born in Vagia, Greece, he came to the United States in 1958 and lived in Jersey City before moving to Kearny in 1962. Visiting will be on Friday May 19, 2023 in St. George Greek Orthodox Church at 818 Valley Road in Clifton, N.J. from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the burial will follow at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton.
George served in the Greek Airforce during World War Two. He was Past President of The Society Theveon Epaminodas and was a member of AHEPA. George was also an accomplished Chef.
Loving husband of Panagioula (nee Golematis) Vlachos, he was the father of Konstantina Vlachos Keastead and her husband Scott Keastead and Alexandra Kontos and her husband Christos. Brother of Demetria Vlachakis, Thomas Vlachos and the late Efrosini Potamousis. Also surviving him are his grandchildren; Christy and her husband Reilley Jordan, Julia and her partner Joe O’Brien and Mikayla, and his great-granddaughter Calliope.
The greatest joy in George’s life was loving his family and spending every free moment with them celebrating life.
