Jose Iglesias, of Kearny, passed away on September 18, 2024. He was 89. Visiting will be on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 4 until 8:00pm at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive in Kearny. Mass will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Church in North Arlington and entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.
Born in Piñeira (Santa Baia de Anfeoz), Spain, Jose “Pepe” Iglesias immigrated to the US in 1961 and settled in Newark’s Ironbound Section where he met his wife, Margarita. They married in 1966 and moved to Kearny to raise their family. He worked as a longshoreman for SeaLand Terminals (ILA1235) in Elizabeth for 40 years until his retirement in 2001. He was one of the founding members #21 of the Centro Orensano Club where he enjoyed playing cards and watching soccer matches. He loved gardening, collecting coins, carpentry and traveling to Spain, but above all, he cherished time with his family.
Beloved husband of 57 years to Margarita (nee Sanchez), loving father of Rosa Eckhardt (Joseph), Jose Iglesias Jr (Joanna) and Oscar Iglesias (the late Melissa). Proud grandfather of Julia, Stephanie, Paul, Matthew, Marin and Marco.
Brother of the of the late Pilar Vazquez (Andres), Blandina Fernandez (Andres), Oscar and Diego Iglesias. He was a dear brother-in-law to Rosa Domingues (the late Daniel), Benjamin Sanchez (Lola), the late Ramon Sanchez (Maria), Celeste Quintana (Joe), Marisa Hodgdon (Rick), Flora Cunha (the late Jim), Emily Sanchez and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
