Roberto Alfonso

Roberto Alfonso (Papi) passed away peacefully at home on March 7th, 2025, with his daughter by his side. He was 90.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Roberto at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive Kearny on Monday March 10th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church on Tuesday at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery

Roberto was born in Maximo Gomez, Cuba and immigrated to the United States in 1970. He lived in the Ironbound section of Newark for 24 years before moving to Kearny in 1994. Roberto was proud to be a United States citizen and believed anything here was possible with lots of hard work.

He was the Housekeeper Supervisor at St. James Hospital for 33 years before retiring in 2003.

One of his passions was working in his garden and he was especially proud of his lemon trees. Everyone who knew Papi benefited from his green thumb as he gifted all with fresh fruit, vegetables, and his beautiful flowers.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his adored granddaughters who were his life.

Roberto was the husband of the late Hilda (Fadraga), Beloved Father of Maria Clinchot (Charles), adored Grandfather of  Alexis, and Kaitlyn Clinchot. He was the best friend of Richard Montero. He also leaves behind his dog Coco, two cats Morris & Boots, and granddog Lola.

Roberto will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
