Anita Smallfence, 84, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, just as she wished. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Anita later made her home in New Jersey, where she built a life centered on love, family, and quiet strength.
Visiting will be on Saturday June 21, 2025, from 9:00 until 10:00 am at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny. Prayers will be at 10:00 am in the Funeral Home and then Entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
Anita worked for many years as a dedicated loan administrator, known for her attention to detail and commitment to helping others. But above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who would do anything and everything for her family. Her love was constant, her presence grounding, and her generosity unmatched.
Anita was predeceased by her parents, brother, husband, and beloved son. She is survived by her daughter Darlene; her grandchildren Justin, Suzanne, and CJ; and her great-grandchildren Elianna, Luis, Jayla, and Angelo, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
A proud descendant of the Mohawk community, Anita carried her heritage with dignity and grace. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: a hot cup of tea, a classic scary movie, the color purple—which she adored—and the music of Elvis Presley. She also held a deep admiration for Princess Diana, drawn to her grace and compassion.
We take comfort in knowing Anita is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved son, a reunion she longed for and truly deserved. Her spirit lives on in all of us, and we each strive to be the kind of mother, grandmother, and person she was—selfless, loving, and full of quiet strength.
Anita's legacy is one of unwavering love, resilience, and devotion to those she held dear. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
