John Anthony Gomez, 77, of Newark, New Jersey passed away January 13, 2026, surrounded by family in his home. Born in Puerto Rico, he moved to New York City at age one and later made Newark his lifelong residence.
After high school, Tony enlisted and proudly served in the armed forces of the United States of America as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he became a real estate agent and later a broker and owner of a Century 21 office.
Friends and family loved his smile and calm nature. He was open, non judgmental and accepted everyone. He enjoyed all types of music, loved the ocean and fishing, reading, playing pool and making small wood furniture.
Tony was a devoted husband to his surviving wife of 54 years ,Katalin. A proud father to son Daniel and daughter Monica and father-in-law to Jennifer and Rodney. He cherished his granddaughter Jocelyn and treasured family vacations and time spent with loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30th 2026, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ 07032.
Burial service will take place on Staurday, January 31,2026 at Glendale Cemetery, 28 Hoover Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003.
