Walter Kennedy

Walter Kennedy passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30 surrounded by members of his family. Walter was born and raised in Harrison, NJ and moved to Manchester, NJ after his retirement. Visiting will be on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass Friday 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church in Harrison and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

Walter is survived by his beloved companion, Bernice McGrath; his sister Rosemary Ferrero; nieces and nephews Peter Ferrero, Maureen Grenevich, Robert Ferrero and wife, Karen; Elizabeth Ferrero; and special life-long friends Dave Walsh and wife Lois; and Ray Walsh and wife Maureen.

Walter graduated from Seton Hall University and then went on to receive his law degree from Seton Hall Law School. He had a career in State government and held various titles with the office of Legislative Services - the nonpartisan staff of the New Jersey Legislature - including Senior Legislative Counsel and Principal Staff Council. Walter’s career in state government paralleled his service in municipal government with the town of Harrison and he held the office of town attorney and prosecutor and others as well.

In his retirement Walter enjoyed playing golf, especially at the 11th hole in Sugarloaf Golf Club in Maine where he made his famous hole-in-one, travelling through Europe which always included a stay in Ireland and visiting all but four of the United States. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
