Maria De Almeida, of Kearny passed away June 25, 2026. Beloved wife of Victor and loving mother of Ariana and Ashley De Almeida. She was the cherished daughter of Rosa and the late Agostinho Barreiro.
Visiting will be Sunday June 28th from 2:00 - 6:00 pm at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral home. Mass will be Monday at 10:00 am in St. Stephen’s Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Maria was very involved with A.C.P. of Kearny and many facets of community health programs especially helping the needs of the Portuguese. To list some of her many activities, Maria worked with Casa de Ribatejo, the local Portuguese news channel, The Ironbound Ambulance Squad, the Blue Knights Motorcycle group with Dr. Ben, the organization MADD (mothers against drunk drivers). She was also involved with the Eastward Community Center and the Montana Community Center. She ran the Mammogram Program for the Newark Police Department bus. She was also involved with the Rick Barbosa Foundation and the Roseville Ave Presbyterian Church in the 7th Precinct. This list could go on. She was a very caring person.
