Robert Slater

Robert F. Slater, “Bob,” a longtime resident of Kearny, N.J. died January 28, 2018 after a brief illness.  He was 81.

Visiting will be on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass Friday 10:30 a.m. in St. Stephens Church and burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery. 

Born in Newark, N.J., Bob was predeceased by his parents John and Anna Slater (MacInness), and his siblings Anna Kierstead, Helen Clarke, John Slater and Josephine Hankins.

Bob was married for 56 years to his wife Dorothy (Shuba) who passed away in 2014. 

Bob was a proud alumni of St. Joseph’s Grammar School, in Newark, and enjoyed catching up with his former classmates at their reunion dinners.  He often reminisced about his childhood on Fairmount Ave. and the many friends he had there.  He later worked as a truck driver, retiring from Ferro Trucking in Hillside, N.J.  He was a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, and took a ride to the Sands Casino whenever time would allow.

Bob was beloved by all who knew him.  He will deeply missed by his children Robert J. Slater, Janet S. Bayer (Stephen Miller) and Maria Slater; his grandchildren Michael Bayer (Alyssa), Kelly Bayer (Joseph Topchev), Jessica Slater, Robert G. Slater (Tatiana Cardona), Nicholas Slater, Breanna Slater and Mason Slater; and his great grandchildren Robert Eli Slater and Owen Jackson Bayer; as well as many nieces, nephews and inlaws.
