John Paul Berko passed away at home on December 10, 2018. He was 77. Born in Newark he lived in Union before moving to Kearny many years ago. Visiting will be Thursday December 13, 2018 from 4 until 8 p.m.. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass Friday 10 a.m. in St. Stephens Church and burial will follow ay Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
John was a salesman for Sear in Jersey City. During high school, John excelled in sports; especially football, wrestling and basketball. He was an ordained minister for The Independent Assemblies of God and had been an inner city minister for The House of Mercy Mission in Newark. He was a daily communicant at St. Stephens Church.
John was the husband of Margaret (nee Mason) Berko and formerly married to Nancy Carole. Father of John T. Berko (Debbie), Annmarie Tesarck (Fred), Michele-Lee Shapiro (Steven), Michael J. Berko, Mary M. Berko and James F. Berko. He was the brother of James P. Berko (Linda) and is also survived by his grandchildren Jonathon, Makayla, Bethany, Rachel, Joshua, Starr and Parker and his mother in law Helen (nee Fitzgerald) Mason.
