Maurice Smith, 81 of Crossford Fife, Scotland, formerly of Kearny passed away on December 24, 2019.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Maurice at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Saturday December 28 from 2-5 PM, with a funeral service being celebrated at 4:30 PM. Cremation will be held privately.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Maurice served in the Royal Air Force before working as a shipwright for several years. Maurice moved with his family to Kearny in 1963, and spent many years there and in Rutherford before returning to Scotland several years ago. Maurice was a sales executive for Pan-American Airlines for many years.
A jack of all trades, Maurice was a talented carpenter. A world traveler, he treasured trips taken with his wife, especially European cruises. Maurice owned the Brigadoon bar in Brooklyn, NY, and was past master of the Copestone Ophir Masonic Lodge, and past-president of the Ulster Club.
Maurice cherished fond memories of the beautiful 60th anniversary his family held for him and his wife just last year.
Maurice was the beloved husband of 61 years to Elizabeth (nee Hewitt) Smith; devoted father of Kirk Smith and Scott Smith; father-in-law of Linda Smith; dear grandfather of Kyle and Christopher, and Godfather of Mark Ballantyne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
