Ray Sugar Rocky Rivas 40, of Jersey City formerly of Kearny and Newark died on February 3, 2019.
Visiting will be at The Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive Kearny Friday 6-8PM. Cremation will be private.
Born in Newark, Ray lived in Newark and Kearny before moving to Jersey City 8 years ago.
Ray was an x-ray technician at St. Barnabas Medical Center.
He is the beloved father of Martine Rivas and son of John and Hilda Pereira Rivas. Brother of Mayra Rivas-Flores and her husband Javier. Nephew of Omar and Sandra Pereira and Herbert and the late Maria Arias. Uncle of Ernesto and Emilio. Cousin of Paola, Adryan, Mauro, Cinthia and beloved friend to many.
Ray was also a motion picture and TV actor who appeared in the film Shortbus and Bright Eyes Videos. He recently appeared in a Reina Gossett film that premiered at The Whitney Museum. He was a visual and performance artist who performed across New York City at Art Spaces and a musician who performed across the city. Ray just joined the acting group, Outside/In.
Ray was a lover of the Arts. He was an avid writer and poet and a life long activist for The LGBTQ Community.
