Louis Leo Levash, 97 of Kearny passed away on August 12, 2019 (just twelve days before his 98th birthday)
Family and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday August 16 from 9 - 10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s Church in Kearny at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born in West Hazleton, PA, Louis lived in Kearny for 68 years. After proudly serving in the Navy during World War II, he worked as a machinist for Worthington Pump in Harrison for many years. Always active at St. Stephen’s Church, Louis was an usher and a member of the Holy Name Society. An avid vegetable gardener, Louis’ friends and neighbors always looked forward to his bountiful harvest of tomatoes. His family will always remember Pop-Pop’s excellent whiskey sours he made on holidays.
Louis was also known as a world-class fisherman, seldom meeting a fish he couldn’t catch.
Louis was the beloved husband of Jean (nee Wolosz) Levash. He was the loving father of Diana Hopf and her husband Paul, and Elizabeth Levash. He was the dear Pop-Pop of Alison Lewis and her husband Ryan, and Kimberly Garcia and her husband Ray, and cherished great-grandfather of Samantha and Zachary. He is survived by his dear sister Helen Penkola, and by many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. Louis will also be sorely missed by his dog and napping partner Gabrielle.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
