Charles J. Bennett, 89 of Kearny passed away peacefully at home on August 6, 2019.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday August 9 at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation is on Thursday August 8 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
Born in Harrison, Charles lived in Kearny for the past 60 years. After serving in the Marine Corps., he worked as a tanner for Seton Leather in Newark for many years before retiring. An avid and world-class softball player, Charles was enshrined into the Softball Hall of Fame.
Charles was the beloved husband of Sally (nee McMahon). He was the loving father of Charles Bennett and his wife Kimberly, David Bennett and his wife Karen, and Joan Angelo and her husband Larry. He was the dear grandfather of Charlie, Melissa, Dana and Larry, and cherished great-grandfather of Liliana. He is also survived by his sisters Veronica Bennett and Marie Cahill, and was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
