Jose Fernandez, 74 of Kearny passed away on November 4, 2020.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Jose at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Sunday November 8 from 1-5 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the funeral home on Monday at 11 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Born in La Coruña, Spain, Jose came to the United States with his family in 1959, settling in New York City. He has lived in Kearny for the past 25 years. Jose proudly served in the US Army as a Lieutenant during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1972. He enjoyed his work as a security guard and bodyguard at the United Nations in New York for fifteen years, and protected many dignitaries and heads of state while serving there. Jose most appreciated relaxing with a glass of Albariño, his favorite Spanish wine, and a Montecristo #5 cigar.
Jose was the beloved husband of Carmen Fernandez; loving father of Maria Jose Fernandez and Isabel Castro and her husband Joseph; and treasured grandfather of Xabier, Marcos, Brandon and Ana.
