Eleanor Laurise Lorio

Eleanor Laurise Lorio passed away on April 21, 2020. She was 79.

Eleanor was a proud native New Yorker, born in Manhattan to Marguerite Olive (nee Vignali, 1906-1962) and George Lorieo (1899-1955). She was by far the most beautiful women we have ever known with nary a wrinkle to mark her 79 years. She was smart and tough, and she achieved a great deal for a woman born in the 1940’s. Eleanor graduated from Catherine McAuley High School in Brooklyn in 1959, and attended St. John’s University in Queens until 1962; she graduated from Empire College in 2001 with her daughters in attendance at the graduation ceremony. Eleanor worked for the New York Telephone Company, NYNEX and Verizon, retiring twice in 1992 and again in 2001. She was recognized for outstanding service in support of the communications network she facilitated for the Democratic National Convention held at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1980. Eleanor was cultured, demanding and tenacious. She would never greet you without perfect hair and make-up, and preferred only the finest clothing. She loved music and theater, was a fabulous cook and a mean poker and monopoly player. She was an avid reader, a long-time member of the New York City Tall Club, traveled the world, and lived in Colorado for ten years. Eleanor is survived by daughters Marguerite and Loretta Mc Laughlin, their husbands Stephen Foley and Anthony Vignier, and grandsons Ryan Foley, André and Philip Vignier, and her former husband Vincent Mc Laughlin.

Though her light no longer shines, her radiance ever remains.
