Martha Lucy Sheridan

Martha Lucy Sheridan entered into eternal rest on April 25, 2020.

Lucy was predeceased by her dear sisters Rosie Tague and Anne Plisco. She is survived by her children Karen Kennedy, Jim Dupree, Cathy Dupree, and Lisa Hampton and her loving grandchildren Justin Kennedy, Amanda Dupree, Kasey Hampton, Victoria Hampton, and Audrey Hampton. She also leaves behind her long-time friend and companion Peter Caffrey.

Lucy was born in Kearny and graduated from St. Cecilia’s. Lucy chose a nursing career and went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s Nursing school. Lucy continued her education by getting both her Bachelor and Master’s degrees. Lucy started out nursing in a hospital environment as well as worked as an industrial nurse. But her favorite job was being a school nurse in the Paterson School system. Lucy loved working with children and retired in 2002. Lucy was a longtime and active member of St. Antoninus Church in Newark, NJ.

Private arrangements are by The Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home. She will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. The family will hold a celebration of Lucy’s life at a later date when it is safe to do so. Donations may be made in memory of Martha Lucy Sheridan to Alzheimer’s Association, NJ Chapter, 3 Eves Drive Suite 10, Marlton, NJ 08053 or at www.alz.org.

Lucy had a warm, loving smile that could lighten up a room. She had a great sense of humor and a laugh that warmed your heart. Lucy enjoyed a variety of music but Irish music, especially when live, held a very special place in her heart. She also enjoyed dancing and spreading joy to all she met. It was this all-encompassing love of people that made her such a committed and devoted believer in the Catholic Church. Her strong faith helped her through many of life’s obstacles.

We love Lucy, always.
