Marine Veteran, James F. Carey, Jr. (Jimmy), 64 of Kearny, NJ entered into eternal life on April 27, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents (Eleanor and Jim) and brother Robert.
Born and raised in Kearny, Jimmy graduated in 1974 from Kearny High School, where he excelled in football. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp proudly serving for 6 years. Following his discharge from the Marines, Jimmy served 4 years in the United States Coast Guard. In 1987, he started his 25 year long career with the Kearny Fire Department. During this time, Jimmy was awarded Fireman of the Year in 2009 and spent many years as the Union President for the FMBA Local 18.
Jimmy was always there for anyone in a time of need and was the first to give you the shirt off his back. He loved music, was a great cook, and a master storyteller. It wasn’t just the story, which often had an animated twist since he was involved, but how he told it. Favorite pastimes involved sports, Jimmy was a die-hard New York Rangers season ticket holder, avid golfer and a huge NY Giants and Yankee fan. The love of sport and other traits were passed onto his family whom he so dearly loved.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Sharon (nee Ball), two sons James III and Daniel, daughter-in-law Nicole, two beautiful grandchildren Avery and Daniel, a sister Lee Ellen Paulin (Dave) and niece Olivia and nephew David.
Private services were entrusted to the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home with interment at Fairview Cemetery. A celebration of his life and memorial service will be announced at a later date.
