James F. Battalino – 1938 to 2020
Jim’s wake will be on Thursday morning at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.. Mass will be at Our Lady of Czestochowa at 11:00 a.m. in Harrison and he’ll be buried with family in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Jim was born in Newark, NJ and resided in Harrison his entire life.
He was the son of the late Jean (Botch) and Peter Battalino, and is survived by his sister, Annette Marion (Jim) and two nephews, Jimmy and Peter Marion.
Jim was a graduate of Seton Hall University and served in the U.S. Army.
For more than 15 years, Jim was an account representative for Fisher-Stevens in Clifton, NJ.
Jim was a member of the Harrison Board of Education in the late 1970’s and later became the Harrison Board of Education Business Manager from 1981 to 2006 when he retired.
He was on the board of Pathways to Independence from 1993 to 2006. Jim also was on the board for the Harrison Police and Fireman’s Federal Credit Union for over 25 years.
Jim enjoyed the challenge of a daily crossword puzzle as well as going out to dinner with family and friends. As an avid sports fan, he watched many sporting events. His favorite player was Joe Namath and the 1968 New York Jets. He loved playing golf and going to the racetrack, and he especially enjoyed his yearly bus ride to Monmouth Racetrack. He was known as “Batman” by many of his friends and relatives in town.
