Joanne Owens (nee Bevacqua), 69 of Kearny passed away on March 23, 2021.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation for Joanne at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Tuesday March 30 from 4-7 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Lyndhurst on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Those attending the mass are asked to meet directly at church.
Born in Jersey City, Joanne was raised downtown, graduating from Holy Rosary Grammar School and from Ferris High School. She has resided in Kearny for the past 45 years. Joanne completed her education at Montclair State University, earning her Master’s degree in English. She previously worked for the Hudson County Courthouse as a judicial secretary. For over 20 years, Joanne enjoyed her work at Montclair State University as the Managing Director of the Theater and Dance Series. Finally, Joanne was a programmer for the Hudson County Office on Aging until her retirement.
Joanne loved to travel, and especially enjoyed attending Broadway shows. A perfect day with Joanne would be to see two Broadway shows, with an intermission spent at Sardi’s for theater talk and a glass of Pinot Grigio, and a diet Coke.
Joanne was the beloved wife of 42 years to James Owens; dear sister of Joseph Bevacqua, and daughter-in-law of James E. Owens. She was predeceased by her parents Anthony V. and Rose T. (nee Cuomo) Bevacqua. She is also survived by her loving dog, Jazz.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Another celebration of Joanne’s life will be held at a restaurant at a later date.
