Shanti Sawh, 87 of Kearny passed away on August 30, 2021.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services for Shanti at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Friday September 3 from 9 - 11:30 AM. Cremation will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange.
Shanti Sawh was born in 1934 in Guyana, SA. He emigrated to Surinam in 1963 to start the Surinam branch of First Federation Life Ins. Co. He is self-taught in Dutch, Hindi and the local dialects, and was extremely well liked and respected in the Surinam community. He was quickly promoted to Director of First Federation Life, due to his excellent performance within the company. Shanti subsequently joined Manufacturers Life Insurance Co., and because of his excellence in organization, he was promoted to Training Director for the entire branch. Because Shanti was the son of a pandit, he was well versed in the Hindi language and Hindu culture, and a constant resource for family and friends. He was thoroughly educated in the Hindu religion, able to perform Hindu rites, actively involved in the Arya Samaj movement, and enthusiastically engaged in the Lions Organization.
Although he battled multiple life-threatening medical challenges, Shanti remained in constant contact with friends and relatives, expressing warm, selfless love and care for their wellbeing. Especially for his (grand)children, he went beyond the extra mile for their welfare. Shanti will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially his wife Heria, and children Sunita, Raj, Lalli, Anil and Vickram.
