Jose Alvarez, 100 of Kearny passed away at home on August 24, 2022.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Jose at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr. Kearny on Saturday August 27 from 4-9 PM, with a funeral service being celebrated at 8 PM. Burial will be in Spain.
Born in Ribeira, Spain, Jose worked as a fisherman when he was a young man. In 1973, he immigrated to Newark, and settled in Kearny in 1978. Jose was a proud and talented carpenter, which he worked as for many years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed building things, and was a great handyman who could fix just about anything.
Jose was the beloved husband of the late Estrella Pena Alvarez; loving father of Josefa Esther Garcia and her husband Francisco and Jose Antonio Alvarez and his wife Dorothy; cherished grandfather of Francisco Garcia, Tony Alvarez and Monica Rizzo, and adoring great-grandfather of 11.
