Gilberto Centeno, 90, of Newark passed away at home on September 5, 2022.
Visiting will be on Friday from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Mass will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church located in Newark and burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Born in Puerto Rico, Gilberto has lived in Newark since the 1950s. He enjoyed playing dominoes and especially loved traveling to visit family in Puerto Rico. Gilberto’s most cherished moments were time spent with family and good friends.
Gilberto was the beloved husband of Zoila Vasquez Centeno; loving father of Zenaida Martinez and her husband Reinaldo, Glisel Jimenez and her husband Cesar, and Yolanda Centeno-Roman and her husband Emelido. He was the treasured grandfather of Alexa Santana and her husband Jose, Emily Martinez and her husband Eliomar Cartagena, Alyssa Roman, Erica Roman, and the late Reinaldo Martinez; and adoring great-grandfather of Reilin, Alejandro and E’Angelo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
