Mary “Molly” Maxwell
Mary Maxwell, affectionately known as “Molly” to all who knew her, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 4th, 2025, at Wellstar North Fulton Medical Center in Roswell, GA. She was 85. Molly was born in Greengairs, Scotland on May 23rd, 1940. She immigrated to the US in 1960, working first in Teaneck NJ, before settling in the town of Kearny where she made her home for over 60 years. She moved to Roswell, Georgia in December 2023 to be closer to family. A memorial service will be held on July 27, 2025, at Armitage-Wiggins Funeral Home in Kearny, NJ from 11:am-1:00pm. service will begin at 12:30.
Molly was the cherished mother of Ann Mary Maxwell, the beloved mother-in-law of Frank Italiano, whom she loved as her own, and proud Godmother to her niece Sharon Houston of East Calder, Scotland. But her everlasting source of joy came from her beautiful grandchildren, Max and Alexandra, whom she adored. Being their Granny was the highlight of her life, and Molly would spend hours telling special anecdotes about their escapades to anyone who would listen.
Molly was a favorite waitress at Tops Diner in East Newark, NJ for over 40 years. She also ran her own café for a time, technically named Clovers Luncheonette, but known to the Kearny locals only as “Molly’s”. She had the best burgers in town, the soups were divine, and her pot roast legendary. Customers and coworkers became friends quickly and she will be remembered fondly by many.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to friends and colleagues of WellStar Health System, who’s commitment to Molly’s care was a great support and comfort during her time in Georgia.
Molly lived her life with courage, conviction, and quiet kindness. An avid reader, she always said one could never be lonely with a book in hand. Therefore in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Library Association in her memory. ec.ala.org/donate
