Antonio Martirano passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Visiting will be on Monday August 4th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home. Mass will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark and entombment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery in North Arlington. Born in Spilinga, a village in the Italian region of Calabria, Antonio immigrated to the United States in 1958. He married Maria Rosa Pontoriero in 1965 and lived in the Ironbound Section of Newark before moving to Kearny where they raised a family. Antonio and Maria Rosa retired to Boca Raton, Florida some 25 years ago.
Antonio was an entrepreneur who lived the American dream. Without the benefit of formal education, Antonio owned a building maintenance company, developed housing, and owned / operated real estate in New Jersey and Florida. An outstanding cook, Antonio was famous for his homemade sausage, elaborate barbeques and love of red wine. He was known for his incredible warmth and generosity, which he often expressed by preparing elaborate meals for family, friends and neighbors. Antonio also loved to travel, particularly to tropical locations. More than anything, Antonio cherished his children and grandchildren and took great pride in their every achievement.
Antonio is survived by his beloved wife Maria Rosa (nee Pontoriero), his sons Anthony Martirano, Jr. (his wife Silvana), Michael Pasquale Martirano (his wife Vita), and his grandchildren, Melissa Rose, Michael Anthony, Anthony Joseph (AJ) and Julia Marie. He also survived by his siblings Michael Martirano and Rose (Tita) Dotro.
