Antonio Giancaspro, 87, passed away on Sunday morning, August 23, 2026, in Stafford Township, NJ. Visiting will be on Wednesday August 26 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Armitage Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive in Kearny. His Funeral Mass will be the following morning at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephens Church in Kearny and Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in North Arlington.
Born in Molfetta, Italy, in 1939 to Felice and Rosaria DeCandia Giancaspro, Antonio was the second of four sons. He left home at a young age and moved to France, where he worked and sent money home to his mother. He later joined the Italian Navy, traveling the world and gaining experiences that would remain with him throughout his life.
Known to family and friends as Tony, he came to Hoboken, NJ, in the early 1960s with little more than his skills, determination, and strong work ethic. He married and began raising his family, working for many years as a carpenter. He eventually purchased a home and moved his family to Kearny, NJ. In Hoboken, he later opened his own woodworking business, where he specialized in making beautiful custom cabinets. A true craftsman, Tony was an expert woodworker who took great pride in his work.
After many years in Kearny, Tony sold his home and moved to Barnegat, NJ. Following the untimely passing of his first wife, he married again and moved to Greenbriar Oceanaire, a retirement community in Waretown, NJ. There, he enjoyed his remaining years surrounded by family and friends, playing bocce and billiards, at which he was a master.
Tony will be remembered fondly as a funny, social, and charming man. He was an excellent artist, a math wizard, and, perhaps most memorably, had the best head of hair—even until the very end.
Tony was predeceased by his first wife, Antoinette, with whom he shared 42 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Rosaria Gadaleta and her husband, Nicholas; Antonio F. Giancaspro and his wife, Marilyn; and Elizabeth Stoma and her husband, Christopher.
He was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Cristopher Stoma; Anthony Gadaleta and his wife, Victoria; Matthew Stoma; Antonio Giancaspro; Dominick Gadaleta; Michael Stoma; Michael Giancaspro; Madeline Gadaleta; Philip Giancaspro; and Leo Giancaspro. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Stella and Luca Gadaleta.
Tony later married Francesca, his wife of 14 years, who survives him, along with her four adult children.
He was predeceased by his older brother, Ignazio Giancaspro. He is survived by his two younger brothers in Italy, Vito Giancaspro and is wife, Pasqualina, and Francesco Giancaspro and his wife, Yolanda. He also leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him.
