Alice Marie Silvestri, 83, formerly of Kearny, passed away at home with her family on January 22, 2020.
Alice was born on January 17, 1937 in West Covington, Kentucky where she was raised. She married her husband Jim Silvestri in 1955. They settled in Kearny, New Jersey, where Alice worked at a bank and Jim began a longstanding career as a teacher, athletic director, and wrestling coach at Belleville High School. After having their four children, Alice enjoyed being a homemaker. She and her children could always be found at wrestling matches, cheering on her husband and his wrestlers. Alice was also very active in the local PTA. In 1981, their family moved to East Hanover, where Alice then worked for the East Hanover Department of Health until she and Jim retired to Green Township. Alice and Jim loved vacationing together on Hilton Head Island. They were married 55 years prior to his passing in 2010. Alice then moved to Point Pleasant Beach and enjoyed life at the Jersey Shore.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Jim Silvestri, her parents Louis and Dora Fugazzi and two brothers John and Robert Fugazzi. Alice was a beloved mother to three daughters and one son: Geriann (Ralph) Rotando, Tina (Joseph) DeFeo, Loriann (Gary) Grimes, and Jim (Kara) Silvestri, Jr. She was a dear grandmother of ten grandchildren: Michael & Marisa Rotando; Danielle, Amie & Joey DeFeo; Gary, Kaitlyn (Wehrle) & Kyle Grimes; Madison and Cassidy Silvestri. Great grandmother of two: Rylee and Peyton Grimes.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 26th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Armitage & Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, New Jersey. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 27 at 10am at St. Stephen’s Church, 141 Washington Avenue, Kearny, New Jersey. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
